Outdoor Playgroup is a weekly event that happens May through September
Join the Guilford Recreation Commission and Community Collaborative for Guilford as we host FREE OUTDOOR PLAYGROUP for families with children 5 and under.
Playgroups are not only an opportunity for children to play together with other families in the community, it also provides parents an opportunity to gain support from one another. Stop by anytime and meet your neighbors and bring friends!

GCS Playground:Come explore the outdoor playground at the Guilford Central School. While the playground has features for children grades K-6 which It includes climbing structures, slides, swings and a paved basketball court. There is also an area geared towards pre-kindergarten aged children which includes a sandbox, pre-k climbing dome and pre-k sized swings and some imaginative play. The upper soccer field is wonderful for kite flying, ball kicking/tossing, running and playing. And also check out the newly created Bill Koch Trail which runs from the upper field, through the forest, alongside the Preschool’s Outdoor Classroom and ends at the Town Office. |
Fort Dummer State Park:Be sure to stop by the Guilford Town office before this event to pick up your Free Day Pass to Fort Dummer State Park- available to all Guilford residents. Otherwise, be prepared to pay a $3/person admission fee at the entrance. Drive up to the “Play Field” where there is parking and ample space for running and playing in the lovely meadow. There is a badminton net and a backstop for wiffle or kick ball activities. A disc golf net is present in this meadow. Picnic tables are available with sun shade provided by the trees and a canopy. The Sunset Trail passes by the Play Field. Sunset Trail: The Sunset trail is a half-mile loop trail on the western side of the park, starting near the entrance and looping through the play field. The trail has a western vista of the village of Algiers in the town of Guilford. The trail passes through gently sloping ground and travels for a portion of its length on an old town road that was cut off when the interstate was constructed. The remains of the Boyden Farm, dating from the 1880s, can be seen along this trail. These include stone walls, a small shed, and farmhouse. |
Guilford Center Village Natural Playscape:Welcome to the Guilford Center Village Natural Playscape where you will have opportunities for water and sand play as well as opportunities to run and walk over unleveled terrain. Pick or plant something from the Community Garden beds. Sing a song or make some music as you walk along the trail beside the Broad Brook. Picnic tables are available for snacks, but you may wish to bring a soft blanket and an umbrella for some sun shade. |
Sweet Pond:Sweet Pond offers a lovely opportunity to hike along a mostly level, 1.3 mile trail around what was once (and soon will be again) a beautiful body of water which was used primarily for paddling boats. The trail crosses through a brushy wetland on several elevated timber boardwalks. Behold mature hemlocks and Oak trees and a vista at the Southern end of the trail. The park is undeveloped except for a public parking area and a foot trail. The Dam is currently under construction and hikers will have to back track to return to the parking lot- so plan accordingly. |
Andrew Weeks Forest Trail:
Enjoy a leisurely walk along a mostly level, ½ mile hike into the forest, suitable for all ages. Grab a trail guide and learn about natural and historical features along the trail which meanders beside the Broad Brook. Opportunities for water play and natural forest exploration. Investigate “Guilforts”, the annual 6th grade outdoor learning project, while you are there. |
Algiers Community Playground:Algiers Community Playground is located at Guilford Community Church (GCC) in Algiers Village behind the Guilford Country Store. The playground has two play structures (one for toddlers and one for preschool through about age 8yrs), picnic tables and lawn to play on. There is also a basketball hoop off the driveway. A grant through CC4G purchased the play structures and volunteers at the church created the playground. CC4G and GCC are applying for an additional grant from RiseVT to purchase and install fencing. The community is welcome to use the playground and visit the walking trail that leads to the Country Store. . |
