The Guilford Center Village Natural Playscape is a community endeavor to transform a vacant, town-owned lot into an enriching playspace for our children. Located at 70 Carpenter Hill Rd., the Playscape is a one-acre property with features for exploratory and imaginative play that integrate into the existing landscape. This project aligns with initiatives in the Guilford Town Plan to revitalize Guilford Center Village and to create community spaces, while maintaining the rural landscape that Guilford values. Many Guilford residents and organizations are enjoying the Playscape!
The produce is available for the community as “You Pick” and is also harvested and donated to the Guilford Food Pantry. The Guilford Recreation Commission was awarded a Building Communities Grant from the State of VT. Grant monies were used to enhance the usability of the Guilford Center Village Natural Playscape. The Playscape enhancements supported by the grant include: The trail is accessible to people who use a mobility device and to those pushing a stroller or riding a bike. Your generous donation will help raise the needed funds for the Playscape enhancements! This grant requires a 1:1 financial match of $4,630. To date, $314 has been received in donations, leaving a remaining balance of $4316.
Voting at the park from October 25th through the 30th.
The Guilford Recreation Commission is pleased to host Scarecrows In the Park, at the Guilford Center Village Natural Playscape, located at 70 Carpenter Hill Road - just up the road from the Guilford Free Library. This is a safe, family friendly event that is sure to help you feel inspired and festive!
Our creative Guilford community has been hard at work preparing their scarecrows this month. It has been so fun to witness the Playscape come to life with many new characters!
The scarecrows were built by Guilford individuals, families, 2 local farms and 4 classes from the Guilford Central School.
Some of the scarecrows are cute, some are really scary, and all of them are unique and creative. One scarecrow is on skis and another on a bike.
There are many excellent celebrity look-alikes that you will recognize- including Vermont’s own Bernie Sanders, Michael Jackson and the famous pirate Blackbeard- to name a few.
Voting began on Sunday, October 25th- and will continue through Friday, October 30th. Please come to the Playscape and cast your vote for your favorite scarecrows in each of 6 categories.
The winning scarecrows will be announced on Saturday, 10/31/20, on the Guilford Recreation Facebook page and on our website. Trophies will be awarded to the best scarecrow in each category, and are currently on display at the Guilford Free LIbrary.
Happy Halloween to all!
Please enjoy the display at the Playscape this week. You are sure to be impressed with the local talent and creativity that Guilford has to share!
